| MY son has another woman in his life. She's warm and soft and makes him feel like the most special boy in the whole world.
and she makes me feel comfortable and confident that he's in good hands when I drop him off at childcare.
Last week, antonella Lagala – Nella – celebrated being a childcare worker at the same centre for 25 years.
She was rewarded twice: first by a parent who secretly nominated her for australian Childcare Worker of the Year; and second when she was told this week that she's won at the state level and is now in the running to win the national title (announced on Wednesday).
I happened to be at Goodwood Community Childcare Centre moments after she was told – and I was really moved by her reaction.
It wasn't just a case of delight; it was her utter surprise that something like this should happen to her. She was genuinely humbled and a little embarrassed.
and this set me thinking: why should she be so surprised? as any parent knows, childcare workers are heaven-sent. They're people with saintly patience and an angelic disposition. |
